Choose Your German Language Course Wisely

Now that you´ve decided to study German, you need to choose an appropriate course for you. How to choose your course effectively and without headache?

Before we get to tips on how to choose your study course, we shall introduce German as such.

German is the most widely spoken language in the world. By the way, It is one of 4 official languages in Switzerland. Learning foreign language can be an intimidating experience  but it may also be a rewarding experience in the end.

Education offers us multiple advantages, e.g.  knowledge. And we know that knowledge is a power. Learning takes lots of our time, patience and hard work. Once our brain gets acquainted with peculiarities of the foreign language, associations become stronger and stronger. Therefore, progress from beginner to intermediate is much harder than transition from intermediate to advanced level.

Our world is interconnected and ability to speak a second language became prerequisite to success in life. Multilingualism is a cutting edge of your CV skills. It will increase your chance of getting hired by some companies.Learning foreign language is definitively not a BAD IDEA. Therefore when you want to buy  German language course, you should consider this aspect. Work vocabulary is different from travel language or from conversations among friends.

The world depends on foreign languages. Speaking a language enables us to transmit the information among different cultural backgrounds. Varieties in terms of cultural connotations that specific words may carry created the obstacle in efficient communication. Therefore, the main question remains to what extent is the learning necessary?

Smooth communication among people is the main goal of common conversations. The basic vocabulary for speaking in English is 10 000 words according to stats. The basic talk consists of common words as I need, I call, I ask, I don´t need, etc. But if we need to get involved in more complex problems, the issue may arise.

1.       Check reviews

What’s the reputation of the school? Is it a positive or rather negative one?

2.       Set a Spending Budget

How much would you pay for a course per month? What´s the borderline for you? Set strict boundaries. The price usually starts from 10  per 60 minutes of speaking with natives but It may go even higher.

3.       What’s Your Learning Goal?

Why are you studying? Do you want it for work, travel or both? Whether It’s a pleasure related or your duty to study this language you should always create a learning plan.

Without a plan, you cannot reach anything. Can you imagine that architects would build without plans? I can´t and the same principle applies to learning.

4.       Study with Non-Native Teachers First!

Studying with natives may be difficult for beginners as you cannot understand literally anything. Their accent is a foreign land for you. By the time when your lexicon expands and is sufficient enough, you may consider lessons with natives. But from my own experience I can tell that lessons with natives may be more expensive and difficult. Non-natives charge less. The language schools offer non-native lessons as well for a reasonable price. Choose your German language course based on your study needs and your level.

5.       Should You Study On Your Own?

Studying on your own and without a tutor may be a more cost-effective, money wise option for you. But Is it really worth it?

You can’t speak German  miraculously without hard work done on your side.  Without diligent studies e.g. study on your own + lessons with online or on-site tutors you cannot reach fluency.

Fluent students studied so hard for months and didn’t expect results to come within 3 months.

7.       Change Tutors Frequently

Learn with different tutors. Why? Because only this way you can train your ears to different accents! German pronunciation may vary and by speaking with various tutors you will get acquainted with cultural disparities of the German tongue! German language course is a good option for those who would  like to enrich their resume or just their personal life!

Idiomatic expressions don´t carry the literal meaning. E.g. words have a completely different meaning. How can you find their meaning? Well, you need a good dictionary to understand their hidden meaning.

  1. You should not judge a book by its cover. You should look inside the person, as the outer layer does not reflect the inner beauty.
  1. Out of the Blue He came out of the blue (He paid me an unexpected visit)
  1. Feel a bit under the weather. I feel a bit under the weather and I can’t take a few days off. ( I feel sick)
  1. Piece of cake It was a piece of cake. (something was too easy to do)
  1. Once in the blue moon I see him once in the blue moon. (Something happens rarely)
  1. Argue the toss He will always argue the toss, not matter what you do. (A person who always disputes different view of situation)
  1. As long as your arm Very long
  1. Cover your ass I will cover your ass (I will protect you)
  1. When you don´t know the answer to the question you can say ´´Ask me another´´
  1. A bad quarter of an hour Unpleasant experience, maybe something stressful you have to go through * Deal with or experience.
  1. Take a back seat receive less important role or position ´´He will take a back seat as usually´´

How important are Idiomatic expressions in Conversation?

People rarely use them in common talk with friends but you will discover them quite frequently in articles. Writers try to enrich their texts with these expressions. Should you learn them? Well, using idioms in speech or writing may sometimes cause confusion if they´re not acquainted with them. Refrain from using them as you may speak with someone from Great Britain who’s never heard it before. Use of idiomatic expressions in your writing may be perceived as a sign of the writer’s elevated skills. Pros and Cons of their usage are abundant but ball’s in your court after all.

Simple Ways to Find a Spanish Tutor For a Reasonable Price

You have decided to study Spanish and now you keep wondering ´´How can I find a Spanish tutor that is good and cheap?´´

Well, everyone thinks about this question when searching for the tutor. There should always be the balance between the price and the quality!

The Spanish language is spoken by the vast majority of the world population. Did you know it is the second widely spoken language in the USA?

I always wanted to speak this beautiful language but I can only speak English and little French.

This month I decided to start with Spanish classes online. I always enjoy speaking with natives online.

My tutors are my best friends literally. It is important to find a tutor with whom you will love learning more and more by each day!

  1. Check private language schools– They may provide Spanish lessons with native teachers.
  2. Search them online– you can find thousands of tutors online when you start your search on google.
  3. Ask your friends around– They may know someone who speaks Spanish like a pro and would like to teach you this amazing language. However, beware not everyone who claims to be a native speaker can really speak the language.

A good Spanish tutor should have a good lesson plan and stable teaching background.

Therefore, It is highly recommended to study Spanish with reputable Online Schools.

Online schools do the background check before they hire tutors.

The Quality vs The Price?

Think about whether you want quality or cheap lessons with a Spanish tutor. With online schools, you can get both.

This may not always be the case but generally speaking online language schools try to maintain high standards of the teaching process.

Guide to English Speaking Better Than Yesterday

Reasons Why Your English Speaking is Not the Way You Like

Lots of factors are involved in developing our ability to learn foreign languages e.g. age, engagement, length of our studies, and so on.

When we start studying foreign languages, we miss one important thing e.g. that learning is a long and difficult process.

We feel that It is ok to study 20 minutes a day and develop fluency in one year span or even less. No. This is not going to happen. Maybe in the fairytales. Various factors influence our capability to learn languages.

If you want to speak English fluently, you have to study hard every day e.g. improving all your skills in the language (writing, reading, listening, and speaking skills simultaneously).

Learning is not one side of the coin, you have to flip the coin multiple times to see other aspects of it!

Speaking is the cornerstone of learning foreign languages because it is an active participant in the process of learning. Without active engagement, you may find yourself struggling a lot. like me.

I was reading a lot, watching the news a lot but my English speaking was a pure disaster. Things I did wrong and you can change today:

do not neglect to develop all these skills at the same time (speaking, writing, listening and reading)

A You do not study hard enough

Study a lot, study 60 minutes daily at least. You read books extensively and do not encounter the authentic language, which is the essence.

When you learn with books, you may improve your critical thinking skills but not your English speaking, which you need for basic communication.

If you want to speak it, you have to use it! Simple as that!you spend too much time with grammar rules and you do not understand them anyway.

B You Focus Way Too Much on Grammar Rules

Grammar is your lost time. I would not like to make some people upset with my statements, especially linguists or some scholars in particular.

But if you need the language for conversations at work or with your friends, focus on speaking more. I know people who work for big corporations but they speak bad English.

You would never believe they actually work there! Big Warning: it does not mean you should neglect grammar studies. You need a basic grasp of grammar rules to learn a language proper way.

C In Which Case are The Basic Grammar Rules Necessary?

When you do not know whether the word ´´the house´´ is the noun or verb in the sentence you cannot comprehend its meaning. The main pro is when your language belongs to the so-called Indoeuropean family.

D You are not Using Proper Learning Techniques At All

  • you learn words but not sentences. Learn via translation! It was working for me when I studied English or French. Corrections, I am learning French currently.

The Last Word

I love learning foreign languages because for me learning is a way of understanding the world better.

Developing your English speaking skills takes lots of your time and effort, do not forget to speak it every day and do not miss reading authentic texts

Understanding the hardest languages to learn

Affiliate Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links

Are you trying to learn one of the so-called hardest languages to learn? Don’t get disappointed because it will not be too hard for you to learn at all. Every language is unique. When you deep dive and take a look at a language, you will figure out that there are some elements that make it hard. It is important for you to figure out what exactly they are. Then you will be able to proceed with learning a language without encountering any major challenges.

It is better if you can take a look at the way how native speakers learn languages. They follow a unique approach, where they learn the language unconsciously. In other words, they don’t tend to take a look at the rules at all when trying to learn a language. This method of learning does render positive results. Therefore, the following approach is a good way to start!

Nobody has defined what the hardest languages to learn are. On the other hand, it is even possible for you to find people who speak that so-called hardest language. Hence, you should understand that the fact that it is us who decide whether a language is hard to learn or not. We work based on the different labels that we have given to the different languages.

Easiness of learning a new language depends on your native language. For example, Portuguese Spanish languages share many similarities. Hence, a person who can speak Portuguese will be able to proceed with learning Spanish without encountering any challenges. Chinese is a sign language, therefore It is not so easy for you to learn. Factors like how many languages you already speak, also determines your ability to acquire the fluency in foreign languages.

If the difficulty level between your native language and the language that you are trying to learn is high, you will come across challenges in learning it. That’s because the first language we have is used as the base to decide how difficult another language is. That’s why a person from Spain will find it an easy task to learn Portuguese than you.

Stick to the best learning method to learn a new language. As you can see, there aren’t any difficult languages to learn. You just need to figure the best learning method available out there to proceed with learning a new language. By getting hold of the right learning method, you will be able to receive outstanding returns with learning a new language as well.

Most of the people who want to learn a new language usually spend their time on intensive studies. This is something that you can consider. However, don’t make it stressful. That’s where you can try to diversify the way how you study as much as possible. For example, you will be able to have conversations with native speakers, go through books that will share the basics of the language, and watch movies that are in the language that you are trying to learn. Then you will be able to learn the new language without stressing yourself.

As you continue to learn a new language, it is important to build competency as well. Otherwise, you will spend a considerable amount of time when you are trying to learn a new language. Never allow that to happen in any given situation.

–              Have a basic understanding of the “so-called” difficult languages to learn

While continuing to learn a new language, it is better to have a basic understanding of what the “so-called” difficult languages to learn are. It is possible for you to categorize languages out there in the world into five different categories. Here’s a quick overview of those five categories.

  1. Category 1 – French, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Romanian, Portuguese – It will take around 24 weeks for you to learn the language.
  2. Category 2 – German – It will take around 30 weeks to learn the language.
  3. Category 3 – Malaysian and Indonesian – It will take around 36 weeks to learn these languages.
  4. Category 4 – Hindi, Estonian, Finnish, Urdu, Armenian, Sinhala, Russian, Thai, Turkish, and Greek – You will have to spend around 44 weeks to learn one of these languages.
  5. Category 5 – Arabic, South Korean, and Chinese – You will have to spend around 88 weeks to learn a language.

Now you have a basic understanding of the “so called” languages to learn. However, you shouldn’t allow your motivation levels to drop. That’s because this is not applicable to everyone. There are people who can learn how to speak Chinese in under 52 weeks because it varies on numerous other factors as well. No one can give your the exact time, exact hours how long the learning process takes. It is all unique!

–              Impact created by genealogy and geography

Genealogy and geography are two other important factors that would result in the overall difficulty in learning a language. You will notice that languages in countries that are located geographically closer to each other are similar. For example, Finnish, Estonian, and Latvian are quite similar. You will be able to learn more about this under genealogy.

Genealogy is the family of languages, where similar languages are grouped together. If you are trying to learn a new language that shares the same genealogy as your native language, you will be able to complete the learning process within the shortest possible time. Moreover, your educational background can also create an impact on the ability that you have to learn a new language.

Final words

Do not give up in your studies. Learning takes lots of your time and effort. No one can tell you how long the learning foreign languages may take. We have summarized the hardest languages to learn in this post but It is up to you to decide which is the hardest one for you!
